Hamburg Port attracts more than a million visitors each year, and is therefore the largest port festival in the world. Held annually on the first weekend of May for 3 days
The event marks the day in which the sailing freedom was granted to all sailboats on the Elbe from Hamburg to the North Sea and it was 828 years ago, incidentally the port was established in 1189 about 928 years ago
On the anniversary, the bustling harbor offers a great program of fun, sea and docks to suit the whole family.
About 300 ships, luxury cruise liners, historic ships, naval vessels, ships in the museum, coast patrol boats, tugboats, yachts from all over the world sail to the port of Hamburg, and many of the mornings are reserved for ships to visit.
Among the programs are ballet dance performances of fascinating tugs, search and rescue exercises, boat racing, sailing competitions, sailing for children and more.
On the platform the festival promenade with events, stalls, launch of a new passenger ship Thousands of people flock to the banks of the Alba River and enjoy rolls and fresh fish and other events on the nearby streets.
